Tuesday, March 11, 2014 - Press Lunch with Puri Mancebo, Export Director of Vega Sicilia (Les Amis): The 2009 Benjamin Rothschild & Vega Sicilia Rioja Macan was a 'secret project' between Benjamin Rothschild and Vega Sicilia. It was well hidden under the media radars till its first vintage in 2009.

The 2009 Macan is very dense purple in colour with a nose of whole black peppers, wood spice, underlying dense jammy currants. A velvety entry of jammy dark fruits, blueberries and black currants. A spicy, mouth-coating mid-palate follows with a powerful drive of whole black peppers to one powerful, spicy, black peppery finish. Bold structure, might be a tad bit rough for some.
