Wednesday, March 27, 2019 - If you like oak in your Nebbiolo then this is the wine for you.
If you're an old school Barolo lover - skip it.
This wine was black to brown opaque.
Could not tease out roses.
Had sitting upright for two months. Did not need my used Durand.
Toward the end of the decant smoke did not appear, but thin chunks of sediment then pebbles of sediment. Had to leave almost 2 glasses in the bottle.
It had dark musty nose of oak with mushrooms. No sharpness.
Had decanted at 2pm. By 4:30 it had nose of plums, leather, muddy stones,crushed vines, touch of coco, and dust.
By 5:30 tar showed up.
First taste revealed a huge wine. Long finish, lots of tar, panoply of spices, licorice, tobacco and leather.
Later it seemed primal, oaky with lots of new oak and vanilla tannins.
Chocolate started to show.

The oak was way too much.
I still liked it. But will sell my remaining bottles at auction.
It's a shame to ruin good Barolo like this.

If Barolo were a God, sitting on high among the greats of Earth's Heaven, he would have had to have his angered, destructive hand stayed for free will's sake.
