2017 Fairview Cellars The Bear

Wednesday, September 16, 2020 - Beautiful clear dark ruby in colour. Notes of black currant, licorice, cedar and dark chocolate. Dry, med body, med acidity, elegant tannins. Med finish. Only 3 years old, a baby, and drinking so well. Love all of Bills wines, but this one hilights his skill. It blends old world elegance with new world style. I think this could easily age another 10-15 years easily. I still think Fairview Cellars and Bill are the biggest unsung heros of BC wine.

9/19/2020 6:35:00 PM - Enjoyed your recent vertical TN's here, Rex. I see you rated this a tad higher than the '11...

Do you feel Bill is getting better with this wine as he goes, or does The Bear drink better when young?

So agree - this one flies under the radar by a mile.

9/19/2020 8:45:00 PM - Love Bills wines overall, older and younger. But I am starting to feel I am more impressed when they are younger. Overall I love BC wines around 6 years of age, but I am by no means a pro at this and still figuring things out.

6/19/2023 5:50:00 PM - Recently went in for a tasting. Membership starts in fall as new owners are making their mark. New labels. I dislike the ‘19 Bear being a screw top They say the ‘17is a gem and will last past 2030. New Labels coming out. Had a taste of the new Rosé straight from the barrel before bottling. Great experience. Bill still lends a word of wisdom, as he still lives there. Couldn’t agree more with your thoughts on BC. Give it 5-7 years, but no more.
