Tuesday, July 27, 2021 - Vice Versa weekend and dinner: Dusty red berry, purple plum, currant, earth, and some embers. I much appreciated this wine more since my last having it back in January 2020. This bottle takes a short bit of time to open up, but the sophistication is starting to finally show here. As others are aware, this carries an old-world component that keys-in squarely on its terroir and more medium stylistic display of the varietal. It tastes expensive, though it is a little strait-laced and shy on the finish still, with a medium expansion of flavor. The grip and frame over-flex here and there, letting you know that youth is still in control here. Ideally, hold bottles for another 5+ years.

7/27/2021 1:34:00 PM - Csimm, I'm still undecided on Rutherford compared to Oakville, Calistoga etc.... I have yet to be blown away by SC or M.Etain. Maybe it's the price point setting the expectations super high. Still waiting on that wow moment. You?

Hopefully 2016 SC will deliver this experience for my palate around 2030 and beyond.

7/27/2021 3:23:00 PM - Though I did appreciate this particular bottle more than my previous experience, it isn't enough for me to continue buying Scarecrow. I can't totally decide if it's just a style thing or what, but Scarecrow just hasn't really given me an emotional reaction/response the way other wines have at this price point. My last note (and the 60 comments that followed) pretty much set the stage for my stance on Scarecrow. Ultimately, it was just one of those things that ended up on the chopping block in favor of spending my money elsewhere.

8/3/2021 7:45:00 AM - If your actual consumption time will be fairly quick then I would recommend 2 to 3 hours decanting. If you’re going to be following it over the course of a few hours and drinking it slowly, then I think it would be best just to decant for about an hour and then follow in the glass over the course of a few hours. What it really needs is some time in bottle to rest but it was quite enjoyable with the little bit of air that we gave it at a restaurant.
