Community Tasting Note

Thursday, September 16, 2021 - Cork came out easily but actually only damp to a third of its length. Softly fruited nose of baked dark berries - jammy for sure - borderline stewed. Quite sweet. Vanilla. Some gentle spice. Layered. Similar flavors on the palate which is complex and showing some smokey and vanilla notes (this saw new American and French oak). Medium plus body - the fruit is juicy and ripe but the volume is not excessive. You don't get any sense of unnatural exaggeration. 14.2%. Some gentle acid still. But the tannins fully resolved. Average length, which is not helped by the wine lacking the needed acid level to give it drive on the finish. Ultimately now a soft wine with no hard edges. I liked it more than did my wife. Surely past its best now but still has something to offer if you like it's now complex fruit flavors and are OK with the jammy fruit profile and oak flavors. Questionable provenance (trip through Panama Canal in a steel container)
