Part of a side by side tasting of the 1994 Hill of Grace and 1994 Mount Edelstone at Bymark. Medium garnet colour, opaque. Opened up right away with red fruit and with just a hint of blue fruit, touch of cedar and milk chocolate. The palate was rich and mouth coating from the first sip. Very focused, balanced, no detectible tannins but that did not take away the structure and focus. Elegant, refined and long. I cannot pick a winner. Both were in goosebumps territory.

Rich and sweet blueberry and blackberry fruit. Fruit still going strong though beginning to soften. The structure is still there and providing plenty of grip and interest, beginning to soften. Here is also whote pepper, leather and forest floor, though tertiary notes still muted. There is some mushroom but is pretty clean given the age. Long finish and complex. Drinking beautifully now, looks as if it will last another decade.

Third bottle in the last 12 months -and the best of these three. Solid cork. Fully ripe, slightly jammy juicy red fruit with some minty tang. Quite a lot of oak, which gives vanilla and a slightly artificial sense of sweetness. Light tannin. Consistent with the earlier bottles. Still has life. Not my preferred type of wine - mostly because of the level of oak - but still a good example of the style. Questionable provenance - including a trip though the Panama canal in a steel container. Drink fairly soon.
