Thursday, October 6, 2022 - 92% Carmenère, 8% Petit Verdot
from the Finca de Apalta and El Arcángel de Marchigüe estates,
in the Colchagua Valley with soils of granitic origin and diverse contents.
Carmenère planted at 5,555/ha yielding ~3.5–4.0 tons/ha.
Manual harvest in10 kg. trays. Bunch selection and de-stemming.
5-7 day cold maceration at 10ºC.
12–15 day fermenation with selected yeast at 26º–29ºC.
Post fermentation maceration on skins before racking.
Aged 18 months in French oak barrels (80% new, rest 2/3 use).
14.5% Abv.
Background: Viña Montes founded by Aurelio Montes Sr. in 1988.
Son Aurelio Montes Jr. joined in 2007 and also leads another of the
family’s ventures, Kaiken winery in Mendoza, Argentina since 2011.
