Thursday, October 27, 2022 - Blown away by this! About five years ago I picked up 4 bottles of this for $9.95 each in a wine shop’s bargain bin (the labels were all torn, stained, and/or loose). First bottle a few years ago was in pristine condition - drunk during a family holiday dinner and I didn’t take notes. Frozen pizza for dinner tonight and I thought I’d spruce it up with this. Cork was entirely soaked through, though it came out easily using a Durand. At first pour, I could tell it seemed to be in decent shape - deep purple/ no bricking. And the nose, even right after opening (no decant) was full of vibrant berry fruit. Delicious on the palate too, this actually reminded me some of an aged but concentrated pinot noir. The only downside was a somewhat short finish, though that could be because the usual Rhone smack of tannin and acidity on the finish was largely toned down.
