Thursday, November 10, 2022 - Those professing there to be no value in Bordeaux have obviously never tasted this opaque ruby, intensely aromatic wine. A blend of 59% Merlot, 37% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc, it offers an olfactory package of black currant and dark plum fruit that is accented with notes of licorice, bittersweet chocolate, allspice and savory herbs. Medium-to-full-bodied, fresh and without any heat from its 13.5% alcohol, it delivers flavors mirroring the nose and stays solid on the mid-palate. Even at this early stage the wine's ample tannins are silky in texture and the oak is beautifully woven. Concluding with impressive length, this is a stellar Saint-Estèphe that has the structure to improve and age gracefully. If you choose to pop the cork now, give it plenty of air. This particular bottle was Vinturi-decanted and serially tasted over the ensuing three hours, evolving throughout the entire time frame. Drink 2024-2039.
