Sunday, January 22, 2023 - A bit less translucent than the see-through brick red more common over in La Morra, being a touch more purple - with quite a bit of sediment.
The nose is aged and inviting, but still a little reticent. Initially the palate is sour fruits with a huge sort-of-liquorice-dipped-in-tar ending, with big grippy tannins.
After three hours in the decanter it has relaxed a great deal, but it's still a fairly big wine - though not in a cack-handed, over extracted way, and I actually quite like it. Darker, but not black, fruits, still that kick of liquorice, good acidity makes it a bottle for the table (and puts those Serralunga tannins firmly in their place!).
Next bottle for me is in 2028ish, and this is good for another decade I'd say.
