The best bottle at the lunch- classic Serralunga depth and tannins (which are starting to soften but still have great grip). Some starting development- I’d say this is just over the cusp of its primary phase but still has a touch of brambles at its core. Lovely and will definitely still age much further.

Decanted two hours then consumed over three. Deep coloured. Nose low key to start but last third of bottle opened up to reveal classic aromas. On palate firm tannins supporting high class fruit. Tightly wound but exciting. Drinking now , just, but great room for development. Fine wine.

A bit less translucent than the see-through brick red more common over in La Morra, being a touch more purple - with quite a bit of sediment.
The nose is aged and inviting, but still a little reticent. Initially the palate is sour fruits with a huge sort-of-liquorice-dipped-in-tar ending, with big grippy tannins.
After three hours in the decanter it has relaxed a great deal, but it's still a fairly big wine - though not in a cack-handed, over extracted way, and I actually quite like it. Darker, but not black, fruits, still that kick of liquorice, good acidity makes it a bottle for the table (and puts those Serralunga tannins firmly in their place!).
Next bottle for me is in 2028ish, and this is good for another decade I'd say.

Baudana Baudana Dinner with Giuseppe Vaira (Popina, 127 Columbia St, Brooklyn, NY): Similar to the 2008, but even darker red fruit and spice in the nose. Long, juicy finish, but less tannic than the 2008. Great future here.

Iron, acetone, violet, dark fruit. Rich and concentrated, shortens to a tart finish in the mouth. Wonderful smell.
