Saturday, September 23, 2023 - Not sure if this was an off bottle, in a dead phase, or just over the hill at a very young age, but this bottle was just dead. Not corked, not off in any typical way, just tasted like someone diluted it by about 40% with water. Color was fine, cork was fine, nose was a bit muted but had typical brambly Zin fruit, but the palate was just plain dead. Very little flavor of any kind. The only time I usually encounter this type of thing is if I leave a bottle not built for aging in the cellar for many years too long. But this was a 2019 Zin consumed in 2023. Corked and retasted a day later and no change, so I'll just assume it was an off bottle.
