Not sure if this was an off bottle, in a dead phase, or just over the hill at a very young age, but this bottle was just dead. Not corked, not off in any typical way, just tasted like someone diluted it by about 40% with water. Color was fine, cork was fine, nose was a bit muted but had typical brambly Zin fruit, but the palate was just plain dead. Very little flavor of any kind. The only time I usually encounter this type of thing is if I leave a bottle not built for aging in the cellar for many years too long. But this was a 2019 Zin consumed in 2023. Corked and retasted a day later and no change, so I'll just assume it was an off bottle.

PNP. Rich nose of blackberry, blueberry and bramble, same on the palate. Great acidity keeping the wine fresh and energetic, balancing the ripe fruit and 14.9% ABV. Dusty, fine grain tannins. Drink now for the joyful exuberance and over the next 10 years.

Definitely in a closed phase. Very tight for a few hours where it slowly started to open up. Major tannins. Fruit struggled to come forward. You could taste some black plums, pepper and minor chocolate

A bit less exuberant than a year ago. Perhaps in a slightly closed phase, lacking a bit of precision and focus that I’m used to getting from Dolinsek. Dusky, slightly wizened plums, limestone mineral, and above average acid. Long winsome finish with silky tannins.

Riper blueberry, cinnamon and eucalyptus. Pie in a glass. Bedrock style of big fruit, but balanced. Drink or hold. Drank as a pop and pour. I don’t think it really needs a decant.

Young but still approachable. Opens with a blast of concentrated raspberry fruit that's dense but not jammy. Oak and tannins are noticeable but don't detract. Still going strong after 48 hours. Always one of the more forward, early drinking Bedrock Heritage blends but I'll hold the next one for at least 12 months.

This was my first Dolinsek and I decided to open a bottle early to get a feel for the style. After a few hours of being open, the nose had lots of blue fruits, blueberries, boysenberries, basically all the berries. The palate had plenty of acidity but it was well integrated and while I'm sure it will gain much more complexity over time, I didn't feel bad about opening and drinking it now.

First miss for my palate from a ‘19 Bedrock, but admittedly this is a bottling I rarely order because Morgan’s descriptions make it clear it’s not for me. Palate staining, full-bore with ripe berry fruit and intense acidity. This is a layered, riper, fuller-bodied Zin. Could imagine it will calm down and integrate with a year or two more in bottle.
2 hour decant, then drank over the course of the evening. Rich dark berry nose, taste is brambly, black cherry, currants, earth tones, luscious, incredibly smooth for being so young. Give it time to open and you'll be richly rewarded.

Always one of my favorites across the Bedrock lineup, and the 2019 does not disappoint. Quintessential Zinberry on the nose - raspberry, blackberry liquor, and dried flowers. Palate is rich and saturates every corner of the mouth, but with plenty of savory mineral and acid to balance. Perfectly judged ripeness - maintains rigor and tension, and is 100% delicious.

Ripe, perfumed, and slightly dusty blackberry, boysenberry, and blueberry notes waft from the glass, leading into chalk, earth, and kitchen spices enveloping the senses. The palate is deep, concentrated in flavors, with high-toned blue fruits complemented by organic soil and spices. Great acidity and chalky tannins provide structure to this medium-full bodied wine, and there is a persistent finish of chalky minerality and black pepper.
In comparison to recent vintages of Dolinsek I’ve had in their youth, this is less polished and jammy (by Morgan standards) compared to the 2017 vintage, but more giving and less austere compared to the 2018. Great for drinking now, but should age effortlessly as well.

Thought I'd open something nice after BerserkerDay to celebrate: See, I really like this. I can see how most think this is wound a bit tight and almost austere, but that's what I enjoy about it. Mouth-watering acidity, just a hint of funk (that might blow off with more time - this was straight outta the decanter). Blue fruits, chalky, nervy tannins dancing all over your mouth. Great stuff.

Hmm. Decanted two hours ahead of dinner and had a quick sip before eating. Even with all that air initially this was extremely closed and quite austere. However as it opened up in the glass, and as it started pairing with an eggplant pasta, it started to slowly unfurl and the aromatics created a lovely perfume. Light blue fruits on the nose with a bit of peppery spice and a tiny hint of cedar. Crisp mouthfeel with a a bit more blueberry, red cherry and pepper on the palate. Great for such a young wine and I’m certain it will continue to develop brilliantly.

This is a big wine and needs a little air to come together. Just a little boozy for me at times but still pretty tasty.
