Monday, October 2, 2023 - This opaque crimson wine was decanted through a Vinturi aerator and serially tasted over the ensuing three hours. A blend of 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, it is laden with ripe black currants, dark bramble fruits and blueberries on both the nose and palate. The fruit is nicely accented with notes of lavender, truffle, pipe tobacco, cocoa and mulling spices. Medium-to-full-bodied, fresh and with nicely integrated alcohol (listed as 14.5%), it wraps its flavors with plentiful sweet tannins and a judicious aliquot of oak. Dense in the middle and lengthy on the back end, this is an adeptly-crafted wine that beautifully balances all of its components. The structure is in place to ensure that well-cellared bottles will reach their twenty-fifth birthday with grace. If you choose to pop the cork at this juncture, splash-decanting and an hour of air or more in carafe will be beneficial. Drink now-2043.
