Saturday, November 25, 2023 - I was originally skeptical, given this was included in the prestigious 2021 Italy GR3 TRE BICCHIERI AWARD listing; Primitivo, like it’s US counterpart, Zinfandel can be unbalanced and jammy in hot vintages, and 2017 in Southern Italy was a very hot and dry year. Much to my surprise this shows ripe, slightly jammy red fruits along with enough underlying tannin and acidity to provide balance. This was decanted and enjoyed with smoked brisket, pork ribs and jalapeño sausage. The wine definitely complemented the spice in the food and the sweetness of the BBQ sauce. Medium finish. Needs food to show itself. Wonderful QPR at <$15 USD.
