Saturday, December 16, 2023 - Corkaged at The Mark Hotel’s bar, this was my first experience with Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet having had drunk a decent amount of Bâtard-Montrachet and this did not disappoint. From the smallest AOC in the Côte de Beaune, this was a thoroughly interesting experience. Immediately I found the nose to be softer than that of many Bâtard-Montrachets I’ve previously encountered, with florality, oak, honey, vanilla and hints of spices coming across. The palate was the star of the show as honeyed melon, peach, stone fruits and chalk dominated the upfront before the mid-palate brought in a balance of salinity, oak and cream. As a whole, the softness of the nose continued onto the palate as a quintessentially Bâtard-Montrachet oily finish ensued making for a brilliant drinking experience from start to finish.
