Thursday, November 19, 2009 - I opened this after having had a weak bottle of the '00 VT two months ago, and I wanted to check if that had been a fluke. Yes, it was. The '00 VT is excellent and in a great place today. A nose of dried flowers carries over to a palate showing plenty of red fruit and spice, garrigue, and a bit of sweet tobacco, coming together nicely into a cohesive, well proportioned and very balanced palate. Less of the iodine/seaweed that VT often shows, more juicy, vibrant red fruit and spice. Lots of juicy acidity here, and still-strong tannin surrounded by fruit; this wine has ages to go. Like a stallion just getting started.
