Tuesday, June 1, 2010 - Ruby, garnet, with some brick on the edge. Very clean, complex and pronounced nose, which changed overs several hours including woodsy underbrush, black cherries, currants, dried roses/pot pourri, vanilla and creme brulee'. Full-bodied without being heavy, it has medium plus acidity and is fairly dry. The tannins are still noticeable but very silky. The finish is medium-long. This is a very well-integrated and balanced wine, with a velvety smoothness. It is drinking beautifully now. It will probably be very good for several more years, but is unlikely to improve. It is good by itself, but really comes through with some nice steak or aged cheese due to its complexity. I believe more and more that 2000 was an underrated vintage for Brunello, and certainly a much better value than 2001.
