Date approximate. With client. Pop and pour. I bought it at auction because I expected a lot, then people told be Nardi was notorious for mixing in other grapes so I had low expectations, but this exceeded expectations and tasted correct for a Brunello of this age.It was excellent. No contemporaneous note so I won't talk specific flavors but this is my best recollection.

Medium dark red. Aromas of bandaid and sharp stone fruit. Tannins are refined, but still noticable. Flavors of leather, dark cherry and berries. Needs more time on the shelf.

Drinking like a Brunello reference, with deep purple color, a mysterious nose of smoky black fruits and must that carries to the palate with blackberry, a hint of black cherry, mushroom and loam and black earth. Balanced and integrated perfectly, tannins turned sweet and embracing, and leaves with a long and very memorable finish. Drinking absolutely perfectly now.

Ruby red in color. Blackberries and aged cedar on the nose. Significant, but fairly smooth tannins. Good acidity. Decanted this for only about 20 minutes before serving. Nice legs. Noted the sharp twinge of higher alcohol levels on the mid-palate and finish, which smoothed out over the next hour or so as we finished the wine. Fairly austere. Notes of blackberries and sour cherries on the palate. A very pleasant wine that will probably continue to drink well over the next two years, but will likely not improve.

The Italian Wine Masters (Hilton, 1335 Avenue of the Americas, New York): The nose was elegantly perfumed with floral aromatics, herbs and spice. On the palate, I found sour cherry but with little else to offer. The finish was reminiscent of the palate but very drying. This wine may just need time but at the moment its score is more representative of what’s offered on the nose as opposed to the palate.

Ruby, garnet, with some brick on the edge. Very clean, complex and pronounced nose, which changed overs several hours including woodsy underbrush, black cherries, currants, dried roses/pot pourri, vanilla and creme brulee'. Full-bodied without being heavy, it has medium plus acidity and is fairly dry. The tannins are still noticeable but very silky. The finish is medium-long. This is a very well-integrated and balanced wine, with a velvety smoothness. It is drinking beautifully now. It will probably be very good for several more years, but is unlikely to improve. It is good by itself, but really comes through with some nice steak or aged cheese due to its complexity. I believe more and more that 2000 was an underrated vintage for Brunello, and certainly a much better value than 2001.

Drinking nearly at peak, but it will go another few years easily. Enchanting nose of spice, loam, crushed red fruit and earth, followed by palate rich with layers of black cherry, blackberry, mushroom, pipe tobacco and a few more, with a long and lingering finish. 3 of 4 at dinner thought it was a perfect Brunello.

Single vineyard wine from Silvio Nardi. Medium-dark ruby colour. Vanilla, cherry, blackberry, and plums on the nose. Medium-full bodied with vanilla and blackberry replays. Moderate finish, ~35s, with blackberry and spice notes.

Drinking beautifully. Decanted about an hour before drinking
Singing right now. Some pepper and spice; good acidity to balance out tones of cherry.

Very nice, classic Brunello flavors. Lots of life for more years of cellaring.

Simple but enjoyable, especially since I just bought this for $40.00. A good Nardi. Can't wait to try the 2001 in a couple of years
