Monday, June 21, 2010 - The feel of the bottle in your hand does not register in most cases, not the case here as it is a nice heavy bottle (requiring a few extra carbon offsets) indicative of the quality you hope to find inside. This wine has a nose of dark berries, dusty chocolate and black pepper. The palate, while a bit hot, is smooth and full of big & bold fruits with well managed acidity and tannins to help maintain balance. Oak is present, but well used, providing creaminess and just a touch of sweetness on a dry, spicy, leathery finish. A brooding wine that could knock you over with fruit if it pleased that instead chooses to show restraint and layers of flavor. All the right characteristics here and good now but my inclination is that this one will benefit with another year in the bottle.
