89 Points

Monday, August 15, 2011 - This wine is all about texture. Heavy but smooth tannins bring the word "worsted" to mind. Dark fruits such as plum and black cherry predominate, with typical notes of graphite and tobacco in the background. I found the flavors somewhat muted by the tannins, which also definitely cut short the finish. The finish seemed less clipped on day 2, so decanting might be in order. Nice acid balance makes this a good food wine. No hurry to drink this one. A solid effort in a so-so vintage.
