Wednesday, January 25, 2012 - Meaty nose with a floral quality, showing crushed berries, stone, and pepper. Palate is smooth and deliciously ripe and a touch sweet with currants, boysenberry, and a meaty spice character--though slightly closed compared to the nose. Medium finish, blood and spice carrying through with plenty of dark purple fruit and some chunky tannin. Impressive concentration, still very primary with tons of concentrated fruit. Only moderate depth--was expecting a little more complexity, but I opened this way too early. Hold if you can.
More open on night 2, so bumped a point...still way too young with enough acidity and tannin to age well.
