Community Tasting Note

Tuesday, July 17, 2012 - Opened last night, note written the next day. There are some interesting notes in this wine, such as the leathery notes and funky, bloody note (mourvedre?), both on the aromatic. The leather also shows through in the wine, too. There is a touch of heat on the nose. The palate is really delicious, showing the sweet leather, along with a core of raspberry/cherry, both expresing to me a hard candy feel. There is a also a creamy note that is wound up in all the fruit, closing with a decent amount of tart acid. All in, this is about red fruit mixed in with a slicker texture and some good earthy elements. It's cool to see petite, mourvedre, syrah and a few other varietals pair together. As for an aging curve, there is plenty of fruit here, along with acidity, so no reason to rush opening one if you have a bottle left (although this is my last one). I'd say drink now though 2015.
