The nose was remarkably pretty, while remaining intensely red-fruited with crushed raspberry, sweet herbs, tobacco, loamy dark soil and cedar. Hints of raw meat and beef's blood came forward over time lending a savory note, yet never getting in the way. On the palate, I found velvety textures offset by a mix of black fruit, brisk acids and spice, with hints of savory herbs and pepper. It finished fresh for it's age with lingering spice and hints of tobacco.

red berry nose developing more blue and black fruit with time as well as tobacco and meat. mid is ripe but with a big hit of acidity keeping the wine very light on its feet. tobacco leaf and herbs dominate, but the fruit is delicious. long finish with some pepper. very good and could easily pass for CDP

Stunning wine. I tasted this younger and was unimpressed so I held all my bottles back hoping the longevity of the mourvedre would develop. It did. This is a balanced, rustic, bitter, tannic wine that is the epitome of what southern France grape varietals can deliver. I still think this wine can develop a bit more with time, but is nearing its peak. I will taste the next bottle in a year and likely add to my rating.

14.8% alcohol. This lived up to every bit of its promise from nearly five years ago. It's generous with its fruit and spice, with a balanced and, frankly, elegant sensibility about it. Complex and refined, with great texture. Just a true pleasure. A-/A

Moving into a great place. The is bold and big but has the acidity and red berry fruit to make it terrific. Seems like it could easily go more years but I like where it is at right now.

A field blend of mouvedre, petite syrah, syrah, carignane, and alicante bouschet planted in 1910. The mouvedre really shines with red fruit and fur/animal notes initially. A lit bit of funk, leather, tobacco and spice. Just a little bit of heat in the aromatics but nothing too bad. In a good drinking window now, but should drink well for a couple more years. We enjoyed it.

Very nice. Strong mourvedre varietal notes. No heat. Brambly with more dark fruit that I expected. I thought the tannins were pretty smooth and think this wine is in it's perfect drinking window. Would drink but expect it to last for several more years.

The wine is a deep, dark maroon color. The ever changing and evolving nose had crushed berries, dark chocolate, fresh ground espresso, roasted meat, tree bark, leather, cherries, and some dried herbs. This is a medium to full body wine with ripe tannins and good acidity. There are loads of spicy berries on the palate with nice earthy elements and dried herbs adding complexity. This has a nice, lingering, long finish which highlights the more savory elements. Still young but a very nice wine to follow over an evening. Outstanding.

PnP. Lots of meat and leather on the nose upon opening. Palate was on the savory side as well. After about 1.5-2 hrs the fruit started to shine through and became a wonderful complex wine. Give this a good decant if drinking now.

14.8% ABV. Slightly translucent dark garnet in the glass. Initially this was a little closed and structured, but quickly seemed to open up in the glass. Less funky than I recall my previous bottle with ripe berry fruit and some pleasant leathery components. In a pretty good place, but in no danger of decline.

Opened last night, note written the next day. There are some interesting notes in this wine, such as the leathery notes and funky, bloody note (mourvedre?), both on the aromatic. The leather also shows through in the wine, too. There is a touch of heat on the nose. The palate is really delicious, showing the sweet leather, along with a core of raspberry/cherry, both expresing to me a hard candy feel. There is a also a creamy note that is wound up in all the fruit, closing with a decent amount of tart acid. All in, this is about red fruit mixed in with a slicker texture and some good earthy elements. It's cool to see petite, mourvedre, syrah and a few other varietals pair together. As for an aging curve, there is plenty of fruit here, along with acidity, so no reason to rush opening one if you have a bottle left (although this is my last one). I'd say drink now though 2015.

14.8% ABV if I recall correctly. Tasted over a couple days. Partially translucent dark garnet in the glass. Characteristic kinky spice nose. Young, still slightly firm with complex red berry fruit and that same melange of spice, pinon wood, and animal fur as the nose. Very good. I'll probably wait on my remaining bottles a couple more years.

Drank over the course of about 2 hours, through a nice b-day dinner for my daughter. We splash decanted it before taking it to the restaurant. I found the wine to be a bit young still and it drank with a certain richness. Paired well with the chicken coq au vin I had with it. I found it to have moderate acidity but I wanted something more rustic with dinner, which is why I pulled it. While I liked the wines depth, I wanted it to be leaner, more focused.

San Antonio Wine Geeks - Rhone Varietals (for the most part) (Luke): Lovely, dense fruit driven nose with some toast, cassis, currants and hint of pepper. Ripe palate, but graceful and balanced, with chewy tannins that turn sweet with a mocha vanilla finish. Great red blend with perfect infusion of oak. Wish I could get on the Carlisle list.

Not as ripe and big as I expected. The wine had a very good brambly quality to it, kind of like an American garrigue. It was somewhat long and complex. The color, deep but not opaque. The nose smelled slightly of smoke, like smoked boysenberries. The palate was rich and the tannins were smooth.

A bit of an old world nod in this wine with some pronounced earth and definite brambliness going on. Still has the carlisle fruit but its really balanced by the earth and olive notes. Mind that this isnt a jam plush Zin style though as the mouvedre is forefront here. 14.8% alcohol. Wow, this is a precocious youngster. Popped and poured. Dark red/purple color. Inky texture. Aromatic nose of meat, olives, and lots of pepper, along with black fruit. Nose was full of game, almost overwhelmingly so. Lots of game with some smoke and dark fruits. Well balanced wine but the tannins will need some time to mellow a bit. Good acidity to back up the fruit and tannins. At this stage it's a good, solid wine. In the future it will probably be better than that.

Great in this wine. Hard to notice any tannins. Beautiful nose, of bing cherry, tree bark, some cola and a touch of rich BBQ sauce. Wonderful texture in the mouth. Opened too soon I think. Decanted for 1 hour and even then, it didn't show all that much. Nose of charred oak, tar, dark fruit. Palate was similar with a little earth. Moderate acidity and moderate to high tannins. Pretty closed overall -- seemed more like a 100% petite sirah than a mourvedre blend.

Nice funk on the nose right after opening. Maybe some reduction but then it moves to more asphalt and citrus. I would refer to the aromatics as deep. Big RRV berry fruit at the start. This wine is aggressive and slightly hot. High acid and high tannin. Minerals and iron through the middle. Much richer in the mid-palate. I don’t remember the 05 being so ripe. The wine is too much for me right now but should settle down with a few years of rest.

Four quick tastes at the Carlisle pick up. Greenblanket didn’t quite know what to make of the 05 version and couldn’t really tell much from this brief sample – so let’s just stick to the basics – it’s delicious with powerful dark fruit and a definite Mourvedre meat/game thing in the house. And again, as with all my Carlisle experiences, despite its power and character it runs through the mouth with a lovely sense of balance.
