Saturday, July 28, 2012 - With fears of premox making me trepidatious (wow, when was the last time I used that word in a conversation???), I offered this up for a friend's birthday party. We let it sit open and breathing in the fridge for about 2 hours before attacking it with full gusto, damn the torpedoes and all that. Beautiful, light gold color, no visual signs of premox. Could it be...? Good God almighty, it was fine! Slightly ripe lemon, white flowers, pith, dusty minerals and very light almond aromas wafted out of the glass, with just a hint (dare I say soupçon?) of oak. The palate was a tad round but not in an over-the-top way, with more of the same aspects, though the oak was somewhat more prevalent here. However, it had good grip and lovely definition of flavors, with a long crisp finish. The balance and length were fantastic. I'd have loved to have sat with this wine in the glass for a few hours to watch it evolve, but as usual I had to finish this to move on to the next beauty. Such is life. Oh, wait, I have a few more in the cellar. Youpi!
