Saturday, May 25, 2013 - Dark purple color turning violet at the rim with a deep, powerful nose of dark berries, perfumed leather with floral scents of violets and lavender. The palate is high-pitched with vibrant acidity. It has a muscular tannic grip that clamps the mouth at the onset, but unleashes wonderful flavors of dark cherry, espresso, tobacco, smoke, and vanilla notes. Finishes long and intensely persistent. This scores very close to the 2007 vintage, but is edged out because the 2007 is more finely-nuanced, balanced and delicate, whereas this delivers power. Nonethelss, it's delicious to drink now with a 2-hr decant or drink from 2014 (decant for 1-hr) to 2024.
