Wednesday, June 5, 2013 - Very glad I didn't give up on this wine after the icky 2005, as it's now back to being an absolute top-notch Volnay, and this one is a borderline grand cru-quality showing. It is robust, but refined, as it offers deep, rich, multilayered fruit on top of a stony mineral base that gives it a real sense of solidity, as if something at the core of it were starting to harden like concrete. At the same time the fruit material just washes over the palate with this mellifluous, comfort-wine texture. The Burghound review called this too ripe. I don't agree, but it's fair to say that it is obviously ripe. In fact, there's prtty much nothing subtle about this, but as rich as it is, all the proportions are right - this is one of those Caillerets that's almost Musignyesque in its scale and refinement, and frankly if there were anything extreme or unbalanced here it wouldn't be as drinkable as it is.

6/6/2013 4:47:00 AM - Thanks for the note. Ratings for this wine are all over the place, but this wine came in #1 at Executive Wine Seminar tasting of 2009 Cote de Beaune with a rating of 96 pts. Very close to what you have experience. I bought a case recently based on that. lol.
