90 Points

Friday, November 22, 2013 - The wine is popped and then decanted for an hour prior to consumption. Possessing rather long legs, it pours a deep garnet with much bricking at the rim. On the nose, the tipple exhibits much secondary characteristics of leather, tobacco, plum blossom and mulled earth. Only faint notes of fruit remain. It has a moderately thick structure, evident of the levels of glycerin still in the wine after all these years. On the palate, the tannins are fully integrated and caress the tongue gently. Surprisingly, and quite unlike the nose, there is still a good amount of flowery fruits in the wine before some burnished leather and smoke kick in. There is a scarce bit of acidity towards the end to keep things fresh. Nevertheless, a superb effort celebrating the longevity of this wine. Finish is of medium length with some sweetness in the end to round things out.
