Thursday, December 5, 2013 - Crush's Annual Champagne Gala 2013 (Crush Wine & Spirits, Midtown Manhattan.): Whoa. This is a beast: not just rich in the Bolly style, but huge and burly on the nose with really broad shoulders. Matt says "sauvage": brown, gnarly and stinky with yeast, creamy, malty, spicy with lemon and pear. Palate is just as huge: burly and structured - really a mouthful. like a dense sculpture: lemon, vanilla, brown, spice, rough. This has a lot of potential - but I don't think it will ever be a subtle and elegant wine. Nose - 5+/6, Palate - 5+/6, Finish - 5+/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1-1.5/2 = 16-16.5+/20.
