Saturday, December 14, 2013 - Dark garnet color. Nose of oily leather, cedar closet, and pencil shavings, with a whiff of menthol. Palate is similarly dense, but all bound up in a tight web of tannins. Decanted overnight, the nose now exhibits meaty aromas, as well as berries and a floral, potpourri-like scent. The palate is still dominated by the woodsy, tannic structural elements, but has begun to express a bit more in the way of tart red fruit. This needs at least three years to mellow out a bit, and should drink well for at least a decade.
