Thursday, November 27, 2014 - Quick splash decant. Tart red cherry, violets, red licorice and anise with earthy undertones on the first pour which becomes much brighter after a small amount of time in the decanter. Tart cherry, more red licorice, black tea, and the faintest hints of menthol hit slightly bitter, chewy tannins on the palate. The tannins start out with some bitterness but evolve to nice chewy grape skin on the long finish then slowly fade to a more woody, astringent note.

Style & Quality: B+. Has almost everything I want from Nebbiolo, but the 14.5% abv contributes to the bitterness, the slight thinness in the middle, and the resulting lack of acidity gives it that woody astringency on the finish.

Value: NA. Found a bottle of this in my cellar without any purchase history so I can't speak to the value or what I paid for it. WS lists it at $50 which is about $15 more than I would want to pay. Rating reflects quality only.
