Tuesday, June 2, 2015 - A very nice aging Pomerol that is likely nearing its peak. Still has a dark ruby color. Needed 30 minute decant to get things going, but the fruit kept coming forward for 3 hours. Plum, black cherry, damp forest floor, leather, spice cake, and hints of menthol. Silky tannins envelop a densely concentrated juice. High acidity noted. Medium finish. If there is a weakness with this wine, it's the finish. But this is a solid 1996 Bordeaux that while lacking some of the complexity of the Left Bank '96s, is still very enjoyable.
