Opened in Hong Kong. Decanted and enoyed over dinner with friends.
Not as good as the 2000 that we had alongside it. Less structure and definitely more advanced.

Delicious wine. It's a lighter style of Bordeaux in some ways - high acid and good fruit and just a bit less body than normal but I really enjoyed it. Will continue to keep an eye out for this producer.

Decanted briefly at RF's Vt lakehouse. Nose of tobacco & herbs, some leather. Wine very much showing its age. Light to medium body, very tannic, very acidic, still some black fruit here that faded rather quickly (Mistake to decant this wine). There's some tobacco, some leather, some forest floor. Not much depth, and the fruit faded. A bit of a disappointment.

Short note. A very fine Pomerol, indeed! Nose with lovely and complex depth, dark fruits, tobacco leafs, herbs, sous – bois, decaying leafs and forest floor, stable notes, leather, chocolate, cedar wood and graphite. The list goes on, and as the wine opens up (and disappears) more and more reveals. Palate is semi mature, with silky red and black fruit, red currant and plums, ripe sweet cherries, spicy and deep, smooth but still with rather high and clean acidity. Nose beats the palate, perhaps a bit low on fruit vs. the acidity, but still very, very good, a package of silk. Lovely place right now, went great with food tonight.

Into the neck from VC's en primeur purchases. Cork looked brand new. No wine saturation. Pristine storage as always! Still deep ruby but immediately approachable on the nose. Plum, touch of Christmas cake, Cherry and some sweet musk and game. Very interesting nose. A hint of burgundy with some rose and jasmine perfume. On the palate everything is integrated and in balance. Medium bodied (in a good way) and caressing mouthfeel. Lovely ripe fruit but with a tint of savory game flavours coming through the palate as well. Extremely enjoyable and lovely finish which is surprisingly long and balanced. A massive surprise on the upside and also appreciated by the owners of SHL over a fabulous lunch at The Sports Club.

Nose is a beautiful perfume of plums, berries, violets, spice, and sandalwood. A satin like texture, dark red currants and some spice on the palate. Fine dusty tannins poke at the tongue with a puckering finish. Keeps improving with air. Harmonious wine, just a little thin on the palate.

First bottle of the case. The wine opened up after 75 mins in the decanter. Nose has tobacco, wet forest floor, ash, dark fruit and soil. Palate is silky with refined tannins, high acidity and balanced dark fruit. It gradually gains power in the glass with air but the finish is a bit short for a 96 bordeaux. The palate is missing the fruit sharpness and freshness to be a great wine. Nevertheless, it is a fully mature bordeaux that is drinking very well at its peak

A very nice aging Pomerol that is likely nearing its peak. Still has a dark ruby color. Needed 30 minute decant to get things going, but the fruit kept coming forward for 3 hours. Plum, black cherry, damp forest floor, leather, spice cake, and hints of menthol. Silky tannins envelop a densely concentrated juice. High acidity noted. Medium finish. If there is a weakness with this wine, it's the finish. But this is a solid 1996 Bordeaux that while lacking some of the complexity of the Left Bank '96s, is still very enjoyable.

First hour or so, this was an 89-90 pt wine. Later in the evening flavors started to appear (91-92 pts). On the second day, wine became brilliant. Amazing layers: first came fruit (wild berries), then came creamy chocalates, and finally the earthiness that is the epitome of Pomerol. Great length and body. Should a have a few years, but doubt it gets any better. I give it a 95 based in final brilliance, but if you don't let it open up it will be closer to a 92. Let it breathe. Drink now.

Opening had allot of Iron, meat, blood on the nose and palate. 2 hours later stunning wine. Took the wine to dinner with friends and it was WOTN up against an 85 l'evngile. The 96 was more structured and expressed the terroir more than the l'evangile and was more complex. Still had beautiful fruit and balance. Thankful I have 5 left. Drink now.

Purchased about 10 years ago; stored at 58 degrees since. Fill middle of neck; perfect cork barely wet. Initally popped and poured: Medium red with little or no bricking or lightening at the edge. Savory nose tending to herbal and spicy with green olive. Quite thick on the palate initially; needs air. This smoothes out nicely after a couple of hours but never reaches great heights; nice wine but not more than that.

Pretty much agree with much of what has been stated in other notes. This wine was shockingly stunning and my wine guy decribed it as a Pauillac masquerading as a Pomerol. I thought there were St Estephe characterisitcs. One may suggest that all that means is that the wine is all over the place with not much sense of place. Not true, this challenge to identify the wine is what made it so beautiful and fun. Great color and body with full mouth feel with great balance and acidity reflected in black and red fruit. Stunning. Day two was good but not as stunning as yesterday.

Very surprising as wine was delicious. Bought off a close out list for nothing it displayed Rasberry, Spice, some annise and is very round and not at all tannic from 1996. Really enjoyed this Fruit forward blend.

Medium garnet with some bricking to the rim. Initially intense barnyard dominated the nose, but gradually it revealed classy aromatics of cassis and cedar with tertiary undergrowth and forrest floor. Medium-bodied with firm tannins and balancing acidity. Long aftertaste. Extremely elegant and ready to drink.

A really full bodied rich wine with no visible signs of ageing, a deep garnet red.
This has one heck of a nose, the cassis and cherry with a bit of chocolate hits you in the face straight out of the bottle, it gets even stronger after a while in the decanter.
I can see why there are mixed views on this wine as it is such a strong powerful style. All I can say is that it much more new world in style.
I really like it although you might get a bit tired of the fruit slapping you in the face on every sip.

Mr.RP 88pts? Nah! This has lots to offer! Definitely deserve a better score. However, thanks to the pts, the price remains at the fair stage! Compared to the Dominus, this is like a elegant posh lady dressing up nicely to the PROM while the Dominus is an exotic wild young gals. Refine, finesse, succulent fruits along with secondary flavor, especially high class leather and earth. Fresh and complex and silky tannins with long mineral infused finished. Great stuff for the price! MO? ^^ Buy - Yes.

Simple Series IV: Dave's Birthday (Victoria Peak, Orchard Central): This was quite stunningly good, especially so when you consider the rather unheralded right bank vintage. Beautiful nose, with plums and stewed cherries nestling amongst tobacco scents and some beautifully perfumed flowers. Unmistakably right-bank Bordeaux. In fact most people on the table pinned it down as a Pomerol. Palate did not have the power or depth of great vintages, but displayed a silky, almost Burgundian elegance and transperancy, with clean, clear, mouthfilling flavours of pure cherry fruit, tobacco and cigar-smoke. Delicious. Lovely finish too. More cigar, more gummy cherries and lots of pencil lead and mineral. Classic stylings, delicious flavours, impeccable balance - what more could one ask for? Drinking beautifully at the moment, though I do not think that this is in the danger of sliding over the next few years.

93+ Hitting all cylinders, entering the early peak of muturity, pure dark fruits, attractive nose and deep in colour(a touch of brown rim), still a bit young on the palate, you can wait or drink! now-2019(in cold cellar of course)
Stunned by the tannins when the wine come out from the cellar the very next day!!! At this stage, thinking it will take a decade to full maturaity!!!(21st Mar, 2009)
Based on my very last sip, I decide to uplift the mark to 95. And drink 2012-2023. Thank you for your concerns.(24th Mar, 2009)

Decanted about 90 minutes. Younger than I'd normally dip into Conseillante, but in a really nice place with an attractive tension between primary structure and berries and incipient maturing notes of leather and mineral. Nice LC sveltness and elegance. Delivered a lot of pleasure especially matched with roast leg of lamb.

Opened and served immediately. Dark garnet to purple color in the glass, slight dustiness. Nose of thistle, cedar, violets and black berries. Flavors of black berries, slightly tart cherries and a dash of bitters on the medium finish. Medium to bright acidity, still slightly firm tannins, medium to full body. Drink or hold. This bottle was much better than the previous two tasted.

Tasted September 30, 2006 at an offline. Opened and served immediately in a Riedel restaurant series tasting glass. Garnet color in the glass, slight dusty looking. Nose of just a little mint, dried herbs, leather and mixed berries. Flavors of blackberries, red berries, raspberries and a dash of white pepper. Light acidity with moderate tannins and body. Downgrading my previous rating of 88 points to 87 points. Drink over the short to medium term.

1996 Bordeaux Tasting at CWS (Southlake, Texas): Definitely smelled like a right bank wine, but it was a bit amber on the edges and the acidity seemed somewhat unbalanced. With that said, solid wine. I don't know if I would buy more of the 96, but I would buy the 98, if available at a good price.

Stood up for a day and decanted for sediment, this is a must do as there was plenty of sediment in the bottom of the bottle. Drank out of a Riedel Vinum CS glass. The color was kind of a tired purple, nose had berries and cherry with a bit of chocolate. On the palate dark berries, sweet cherry and Raspberry. Short finish, 10 seconds, medium to light bodied wine almost feminine. I think that this wine is drinking at its best right now and will still be good several years from now but not any better.

WIML88,WA88,WS87 Tasted September 29, 2005 at an offline so brief comments only. Opened and served immediately in Spiegelau Authentis Magnum glasses. I believe this wine was brought by Bella Donna. Dark ruby to garnet color in the glass, slightly dusty looking hue. On the nose I got a little brettiness at first that eventually blew off to show some black berries and mocha. Flavors were sweet red cherries, mocha and a slightly out of place mint component. Can be drank now with a little decanting but probably should be held another year or two if you only have a few bottles. Unless you pick this up at a really attractive price I’d pass myself.

See previous notes.
Excellent stuff packed full of cassis with a soft round pleasant taste. The length just keeps going.

Beautiful, deep, classy bouquet. Acidity dominates the palate - otherwise thin and disappointing. Structure seems to be falling apart. Probably just over the hill.

An easy afternoon with close friends. 2010-04: Pauillac & Pomerol. (@ PdV): Very expressive bouquet with red fruits and pleasant oak. Same on the palate. A lot of raspberry. Bit of liquorice and graphite as well. Some pleasant sweetness. Silky soft and elegant harmonious wine. Ready now, but no hurry.

Having had the pleasure to drink a lot of this wine this bottle was very convenient, is it due to age or huge differences between the bottles?

This is a whole ‘nother beast. Bittersweet chocolate and mint on the nose. Warm plum and red fruit with a sweet oak side are the primary players on the palate. Long long finish. A very pretty Pomerol.

DAWGS Tasting - September 30, 2006 (Classic Wine Storage, Southlake, TX): WIML87,WS87,WA88

Tasted September 29, 2005 at an offline so brief comments only.
