Tuesday, June 9, 2015 - Westchester Wine School - Premium Bordeaux Tasting (Bar Lees, Mamaroneck, NY): Drank at WWS season-ending premium tasting. In this flight was also 2005 Las Cases, and 2010 Pape Clement. Dark ruby core in color. Feint nose of black fruit & perhaps some vanilla. Medium bodied, very firm tannins, decent fruit but hard to overcome the tightness of this very young wine. The wine was decanted pre-tasting but clearly not for nearly long enough--I would suggest several hours pre-tasting. There's some oak still here, solid backbone and structure to this wine, if perhaps a bit short on fruit at this sitting. I would love to see this wine in 5-10 years down the road as it certainly has a long life ahead. Question is whether it will develop better balance in that period. Also, this is a wine that screams out for food; not a wine just for sipping.
