Friday, July 8, 2016 - Color: Blood ruby red with some translucency.
Nose: Oaky cherry pie with drizzled chocolate.
Flavor: slight dark currents and bitter chocolate, but heavier on the herbal - green pepper, cracked black pepper, vine bark, and some smoke all on the front. Chewy, structured tannins on the middle and some heat from the alcohol content, but well balanced. Finish is a bit harsh at first (again, the heat) but mellows after the bottle's been opened a while. A good minute + on the linger. Full bodied.

Very impressive cab sauv bottle for the price ($16). This one is barrel fermented in bourbon barrels, as the label denotes, which is a growing trend. Never found this technique to do a lot for other bottles, and don't think that it impacts this bottle much either other than the nose, but regardless, one of the better medium shelf cabs from California. Not a fruit bomb, so if that's your preference, you likely won't like this bottle. Let the bottle sit 30 minutes opened and it's ready to go. Drink or hold.
