Wednesday, September 14, 2016 - Oregon Tasting with special guest Jade Helm (Common Lot Restaurant - Millburn, NJ): Last bottle...Brought this along with a 2000 Beaux Frères to finish an evening of Oregon wine tasting and education, fun to get a little age on these bottles and get the crowd reaction. Decanted when first arrived, drank after about 90 minutes opened.

Deep ruby color, opaque and cloudy. This one had some funk on the nose when we first started drinking it - one of those where the palate did not match the nose at all...Fruit forward and savory wine. Red fruit, strawberry/raspberry. Mid and back palate is dusted old fruits, herbs and exotic spices. Elegant mouth feel, full bodied and nicely layered finish.

This wine improved considerably during the decant, some thought too funky at first (nose), it continued to open in the glass showing rich secondary characteristics. It has lost some of the sweetness/red candy I recall from its youth, replacing it with spice/savory...it's aged well...WOTN for some...my last bottle, would drink now as I think the wine will go into a tertiary phase in a few years
