95 Points

Tuesday, October 11, 2016 - My first of 3 and it did not disappoint! Opened upon arrival at venue where it sat for around 90 minutes before drinking. This was pretty dam nice from the get go and just got better with air. Showed some richness, lush fruit and the early drinking accessibility of 2006s. At the same time the "purity" of the fruit was remarkable and vineyard fresh. This is a, somewhat, bigger wine than the Rousseau version but still comes off as weightless with its excellent lift. Still, like Rousseau, this is a very traditional Burgundy and nothing like an over the top Dugat Py or Claude Dugat versions of Gevrey. Wonderful concentration. Raspberry, some cherry, earth and spice with clean fresh fruit nose. Adored this ultra balanced wine. Showing plenty of depth today so that opening it is NOT baby killing. Ill, attempt, to wait 3-5 yrs for btl #2 but doubt Ill make it past 3yrs. There are no more 06s on wine searcher and auction value is listed at $273. A producer I love but can no longer afford to buy on release. Think new releases are more like $400. The now expensive basic Village wines are very good too but, no where near as good as the ler and grand crus from MG. This wine is Grand Cru all the way!
