Very pretty nose with strawberries and red cherries. It's fruit driven, yet very elegant with good complexity. With some air, a rose petal and a slightly minty note came out. Nice acidity on the palate with similar flavors and some forest notes. Delicate but with good depth. Long finish. Excellent wine, a joy to drink!

A quick double decant and left it to slow ox an hour before a BYO dinner. The color is vibrant, could be mistaken for a recent release, a clear ruby and you can find a faintest of bricking around the rim if you look for it. Red-fruit dominant, predominantly wild strawberries, with spun sugar, violets, spicebox and sous-bois. There is a crystalline precision of aromas and flavors, such laser-sharp focus not commonly encountered. Dense and powerful and yet sleek and silky, the wine has a structure that is both pleasing and promises a long life ahead. The immense petrichor adds to a long finish. A textbook Ruchottes, the 2006 is very enjoyable now with a quick decant but my sense is that patience will be amply rewarded, cellaring this monumental wine for another 5-10 years.
My 2nd of 3 btls since Oct 2016. Slox-oxed in btl and Burg glasses 1 hour prior to dinner. Spectacular first sniffs & sips and it never looked back. Maturing aromas of underbrush and roses. Showed lifted lush fruit along with tertiary underbrush and mushroom combine with succulent raspberry, cherry. licorice and mineral. This is slightly bigger than Rousseau's version but still weightless and energetic. And like Rousseau, traditional with transparent terroir driven fruit of the first order. Wonderful concentration. Adored this ultra balanced wine and its endless complexity. This is a head-turner worthy of the lofty prices it gets these days. Purchased locally on release and perfectly stored since. No sneaking up on this producer any longer. One left for 3-10 years out. Another great wine to celebrate turning 65 on Minnesota's North Shore of Lake Superior with.

2001 (and circa) Burgundy (Jason's Roof): Double blind 4 of 7. An intense nose of dark fruit, and dark red fruit on the front palate. There's clearly a lot of structure on this, and a touch of spice (oak?). This is at least a 1er cru, I thought Vosne. The reveal was a bit of a surprise, as it's a touch clunky and angular for a M-G Ruchottes, but given the vintage not that much of a surprise, and this can also go a lot longer.

Gouden Kalf @ Den Haag: Pure, fresh and mineral with a graceful coating of delicious fruit, with plenty of intensity and power. A top wine of the Cote de Nuits!

Leiden in Scheveningen’s Gouden Kalf: Lovely Ruchottes, aromatically red fruit nose with spices and herbs. Taste red fruit, very pure wine, cool and mineral, great structure, clearly grand cru. Round integrated tannins. The mouthfeel with a long finish is what makes this wine very special. Classy, sophisticated.

Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru Dinner (Yan, National Gallery, Singapore): Wow - this was seriously good. It takes something to best a Roumier AND a Rousseau on the same flight, but this probably just about did. The nose was the most subtle of the trio, but was lovely nonetheless, with gentle drifts of dark cherries, earth, spice and violets. Dark and seductive. The palate was drinking absolutely beautifully - soft and seductive, with velvety tannins and soft acidity flowing through a beautiful midpalate of gentle dark cherries, earth, meat and spice, all beautifully integrated into a wonderful, gentle finish. Yummy - this was drinking just beautifully now. What a wonderful wine though. Gentle and insistent - this had a quiet profoundity to it that really crept up on you.

Lunch with JM Roulot and JM Fourrier. Very pretty clear ruby color. Gevrey character aromatically. Mid-weight, great acidity, precision. Nail polish nose. Really singing, bright.

A Mostly Grand Cru French Night at Heirloom (Heirloom, St.Paul, MN): Dark red color. PNP, drank 1 glass over 90 minutes. Fantastic. Very complex nose and palate offering a changing array of wonderful spices, tart red ruits, high toned spice, fresh dill, dried herbs, subtle dried earth. The palate is sleek with round medium tannins, red raspberry, tart cherry, earth, oak and plenty of spice notes. Deep and concentrated, very, very good and still feels young though obviously drinking very well already. 94+(+)pts.

My first of 3 and it did not disappoint! Opened upon arrival at venue where it sat for around 90 minutes before drinking. This was pretty dam nice from the get go and just got better with air. Showed some richness, lush fruit and the early drinking accessibility of 2006s. At the same time the "purity" of the fruit was remarkable and vineyard fresh. This is a, somewhat, bigger wine than the Rousseau version but still comes off as weightless with its excellent lift. Still, like Rousseau, this is a very traditional Burgundy and nothing like an over the top Dugat Py or Claude Dugat versions of Gevrey. Wonderful concentration. Raspberry, some cherry, earth and spice with clean fresh fruit nose. Adored this ultra balanced wine. Showing plenty of depth today so that opening it is NOT baby killing. Ill, attempt, to wait 3-5 yrs for btl #2 but doubt Ill make it past 3yrs. There are no more 06s on wine searcher and auction value is listed at $273. A producer I love but can no longer afford to buy on release. Think new releases are more like $400. The now expensive basic Village wines are very good too but, no where near as good as the ler and grand crus from MG. This wine is Grand Cru all the way!

La Paulée de New York: Vertical Tasting (Colicchio & Sons - New York NY): Tasting. Red and black cherry aromas, new oak hints and subtle baking spice. Lots of power on palate with robust fruit. Not quite the ripeness of most 2006s, I wouldn't have identified the vintage correctly if served blind. Firm, impressively long finish.

Smoky nose - on the palate this is nicely sappy, but slightly dumb now but that will evolve beautifullly. Great minerality on the finish, soft smooth tannins.

Some Wine Tasted at the Acker La Paulée Auction (Maybourne Hotel - Beverly Hills CA): I opened this at auction. Fleshy red and black cherry that is wonderfully dense and lively. Bright and engaging. Served alongside the very different, equally wonderful 2007 vintage.

Much improved from 2001 but felt smudged next to later vintages. Lacks precision.
