Thursday, January 31, 2008 - Drank on my 29th birthday with a friend. Top of cork showed quite a bit of mold, and the cork itself was fairly saturated, though still holding its integrity in the middle. Considering I just bought this bottle within the last year, I expect its storage throughout the years has been not too keen... I don't believe the wine was corked, just severely past its prime, due to advanced aging from bad storage. Decanted and began drinking after 1 hours. Nose initially was VERY musty, almost unpleasant. After the nose, the mouth feel was actually quite bright with (generic) fruit, but fairly soft. Finishes with more of the brightness, and then back to the severe funk. Left the wine in the decanter, and came back to it 4 hours later after dinner. Basically showing similarly, but a lot of the funk had gone, and it was more pleasant overall. This is drinking in the high 70 points, but as I'm questioning its storage, I'll refrain from offering a formal score. Too bad...
