Saturday, June 17, 2017 - This year, this is a top quality Villages level Burg. Red fruited perfumes, raspberries, red cherries and a little cranberry, plus some Gevrey signature wild berry and funk. Also earth and a suggestion of high toned violets. Plenty of bright, primary berry fruit on the palate. Also Gevrey sauvage, earth and smoky, barbequed meats. Palate coating. Old vines fruit volume and sappiness (many vines 70+ years old I understand). Plenty of tannic structure in evidence, but spherical, not rustic tannins. Harmonious and balanced with good precise acidity. Best on the initial pop and pour, after about 10 minutes. Even 3-4 hours later it had begun to shut down. Bury it for a minimum of 4-5 years in the cellar.
