Huge glycerol mouthfeel, heavily extracted--not to the point of bitterness, but to the point of near medicinal levels of ethanol. 14% alc/vol. There is sooooo much going on in this wine that I feel (yes, IMHO) this wine loses what is paramount in Riesling: freshness. This wine delivers what GrueVe ought to deliver, which is that fat, herbal and boldly melon-y profile. Riesling, on the other hand, ought to give you a sense of refreshing vibrancy, the feel of an electric charge on the tongue, full of dynamic, exotic fruit, laser-like focus and, above all, freshness. That bouyant acidity that lifts the levels of fruit just that much higher and blares them from the glass. For all there is in this edition of Privat, there's certainly an important element missing. In my eyes, at least.
