Community Tasting Note

Wednesday, April 30, 2008 - Nose is of raisiny overripe fruit, black pepper, torrefaction, and powdered obsidian (yes, i used to collect rocks), with some secondary notes beginning to happen as well. A mouthful of sweet, stewed dark fruit, licorice, bittersweet chocolate, almost gritty with tar/torrefaction, hugely concentrated. As the wine coasts from midpalate to finish there is a growing bitterness reminiscent of coffee grounds. I don't drink a lot of Priorat and this reminds me why -- while the early secondary notes here are certainly pleasing, overall I find the wine sweet and sickly-ripe, overextracted and bitter.
