90 Points

Monday, July 16, 2018 - A "porty" nose with dried and very ripe fruit, dried herbs, clean and not marked by alcohol. On the palate a beautiful tar minerality, just hints of dark chocolate, hints of meat but above all the dried ripe strawberries, figs, cherries, raisins. Good structure with mellowed tannins and a good acidity backbone. Medium bodied with a long finish.

I liked the structure and the aromatic precision but the aroma profile is not mine. Too port wine like, too much raisins, too ripe. I have an ambivalent relationship with CDP wines. On one hand I had some great, elegant wines (incl. some younger Clos des Papes) but on the other hand too many (older) supposed to be "fine wines" turned out to be just too much for my taste (too ripe and/or too extracted and/or too extreme aroma profile). It's a matter of taste and to be fair, others at the table liked this wine clearly better than I did (but nobody on a goosebumps level).

Decanted it for roughly two+ hours. Opened up and gained weight, hence I advise to decant at two to three hours.
