Wednesday, August 1, 2018 - Tasted in December 2016. The NV Gosset Champagne Brut Excellence is a wine that will be ingrained in my memory forever. Not because it is top-notch Champagne, per se, but because I had the pleasure of enjoying it side by side with Domenico Clerico on a majestic winter evening at his winery in Piedmont. The sun was setting over the hilltop in the distance and reflecting off the snow, illuminating the all-glass tasting room and imparting an angelic glow. Just as I thought our tasting had concluded Domenico casually strolled over to the fridge and pulled this bottle. As he popped the cork he exclaimed with a grin on his face, "if you're going to drink sparkling wine you might as well drink the best in the world. We in Piemonte have the best Nebbiolo on the planet, but not the best sparkling." A seemingly small and insignificant moment to some, but one I will personally cherish forever. I feel honored to have met this legendary man before his passing.
