Friday, September 7, 2018 - Château Malmaison, Moulis-en-Médoc, 2016: The Rothschild family has completely revamped all aspects of production for their Châteaux Clarke and Malmaison properties starting with the exceptional 2016 vintage and it shows big time. Deep ruby with a royal purple hue. On the nose, fresh ripe raspberries and cherries with notes of black pepper, tobacco and toasted oak. Medium-bodied, with nice concentration as well as a velvety texture. On the palate, juicy red fruits, pencil shavings, hints of fresh herbs, freshly rolled cigars, mocha, medium acidity with slightly powdery tannins and notes of chocolate-covered cherries on the long, smooth and silky finish. Obviously young with good aging potential this wine is quite enjoyable now with a decent amount of decanting time. 14% Abv. Drink 2023-2030. 91-92
