Monday, October 9, 2017 - Yearly Vogüé tasting with Jean – Luc Pépin from Comte de Vogüé and great Swedish importer “Tryffelsvinet”.
Amazing nose rises from the glass!
Clean and airy, red florals with deep notes of ripe cherries, raspberries, sun ripe red berry mix, lots of dusty stony minerals.
Palate is, just as the village Chambolle, very open and flirty at this stage.
Really clean, with loads of sun ripe berries, strawberries and cherries, some bay fat showing, touch of dry stone dust combined with fat chalky lime stone.
Very long and well-structured finish with lovely spices present.
With more time some red currants and a touch of lovely pomegranate showed too.
Again, simply a great showing of this 1:er Cru made from young Musigny grapes.
The only thing that speaks against this perhaps being one of the best vintages of this wine made are the low acidity, that in the end might not let this develop all the way.
This will, despite the somewhat lower acidity level, keep and develop for many more years, so no worries, the structure and depth is in there, believe me.
After all, you can enjoy Musigny Grand Cru for 1/3 of the price of the Musigny labeled bottles, and at a quality much better than some of the Musigny producers that sell their at not as good as this bottles at much higher prices.
Best deal out there I would say!
