Wednesday, April 17, 2019 - This ripe yet savory wine seems to be drinking near its peak right now, if not a bit past it. Medium red in color and medium in body, the wine offers aromas of black cherry, cocoa powder, and plum. Tastes of blueberry, leather, cassis, and pencil lead, with an integrated and lingering finish. 14.5% alcohol. Decant at least an hour.

This is a solid wine, but I had hoped for a little less savoriness. When I tasted the 2008 Vecina and 2009 Pluribus recently, for example, each had an incredible balance of ripeness and earthiness. Here, the secondary characteristics seem to be coming to the front, which some people may like - but I had hoped might be a few years in the future. If you have a modern-leaning palate, drink now.

4/18/2019 9:54:00 AM - Thanks for the note! It seems like its time to pop open mine in the near future. Was wondering if you had suggestions on what to pair it with food-wise?

4/22/2019 8:49:00 PM - Great question. I'm not the best at food / wine pairings (I usually drink what I want, within very broad parameters), but I can say that this wine doesn't demand fatty red meat. I think it would pair well with even more savory / earthy dishes (e.g., mushroom risotto, lamb) for which I would usually consider a Burgundy or Bordeaux. In other words, it has enough of an Old World profile to be pretty versatile. Hope you enjoy it!
