Tuesday, July 16, 2019 - PnP, chilled. Not as sweet as expected, and not, IMO, sweet enough to be a dessert wine. I would classify the Eroica as a Kabinett style, and this Eroica Gold as half way between Spatlese and Auslese -- just one man's palate... Worked extremely well with the chilled shrimp and spicy (horseradish) seafood sauce, and spicy orzo salad.
May have been a bit too cold as the nose only yielded some peach. The medium to plus palate showed the same peach, plus touches of apricot, honey and minerality. The acidity put the wine in balance, and the fruity finish lasted quite a while -- without any petrol or bitterness. Overall, a very pleasing wine that probably works better with spicy food than with dessert. Should hold for at least a year or two.
