Tuesday, July 30, 2019 - Served in a Riedel Burgundy stem. Flower / 1017 hPa.

Color is a clear, shiny straw gold. The nose is bursting with white flowers of chamomile and clover, lime zest, asian pear, and chalky minerality. The flavor follows suit, but the opulence of the site shows with brioche, wildflower honey, pear, and preserved lemons. True to form for the vintage, this needs a lot of time to open up. After an hour and a half slow oxidation, the throttle goes to eleven. Saline, crushed oyster shell, sun kissed ripe peach, and kombu burst from the glass. The bottle is clearly so excruciatingly young, yet brimming with energy and verve. Two things stand out compared to the '14 Forets had a few months prior - that this wine is wound up with so much more potential (and the Forets was incredible in its own right), and that the opulence of the site is present; the '14 MDT is just more of everything. I look forward to watching this unfurl, though maybe not for 5-6 years where I can see it hitting the stride the 2010 MDT is now. Until the next time.
