Saturday, December 21, 2019 - Winebar [1 Rosé, 4 Whites, & 9 Reds] from 12/20/19 (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): “Carefully selected 100% Sangiovese grapes [supposedly a blend from ≈40% Greve, 40% Gaiole, & 20% Radda fruit] are harvested by hand into 8kg crates. Destemmed, never crushed, then conveyed into temp-controlled s/s vats, where alcoholic fermentation & maceration (about 12 days) take place; After completing full malolactic fermentation, the wine is transferred into 100% FR barriques & tonneaux (5% new, the remainder 2nd & 3rd-fill barrels). The wine is regularly racked & tasted during the entire maturation period, which may last up to 14 mos. At the end of the élevage, the best lots are selected & assembled to create the final blend. After bottling, the wine rests for at least 3 mos before release. 14% ABV, 5.25 g/L T.A., & 3.46 pH.” 8,333 cases made.

N: Closed; Cherries, earth, with notes of toast? Intensity lurking?

P: Med body; Rndish entry with NICE, almost swtish frt fairly quickly met by an astringent pucker which stays within hailing distance of the init frt as it works itself into & through the LONG, balanced finish with a current VERY slight bitterness to the DUSTY tannins. NEEDS 2, maybe 3 yrs, then EASILY making its 10th. My VG+/EXC-, trending towards the higher (or even more?), but will need... TIME. 97 pts/Platinum @ Decanter’s ’18 World Wine Awards [+ 95 (Hulme) & 92 (Morris), both in 2/’18], 92 ea Vinous (Galloni, 1/18/18), WS (10/15/18), Suckling, & winealign.com (2/’18), and 90 WA (Larner, 10/31/17)! [This vendor's $19.95 is an impressive $5 < wine-searcher's lowest of a fairly large field!]

12/8/2020 3:33:00 PM - Laz, that was but *my* take on it NEEDING into '22, maybe even '23. Others (certainly Cellar Trackers, as well as the "pros" I could still access) are of the opinion it was ready in '19. 😕
